Kalani was named after someone I met while travelling in Hawaii.
I had booked a weaving workshop, but it was cancelled because of heavy rain. Instead of sending me away, my teacher, Kalani, invited me to her home. We spent the afternoon talking, listening to the rain, and sharing a freshly baked banana pie with her family.
It was such a simple afternoon, but it's stayed with me ever since.
They didn't know me and I didn't know them.
Yet they welcomed me into their home without a second thought.
For a few hours, we were just people sharing stories, food and happy moments.
I think moments like that can get lost in our busy lives and it reminded me how special simple kindness can be.
