The Story Behind Kalani
I designed Kalani after one special afternoon in Hawaii.
I had signed up for a weaving workshop and was so excited to learn from a local artisan. But just as I arrived, the rain came pouring down. The workshop had to be cancelled, and I thought that was the end of it.
As I stood there wondering what to do, a woman walked over with the warmest smile.
She introduced herself as Kalani, the teacher I had been hoping to meet.
Instead of saying goodbye, she invited me into her home.
We spent the afternoon sitting under a little pagoda, listening to the rain, sharing stories, learning about Hawaiian culture, and enjoying a freshly baked banana pie her son had just made.
We had only just met but she welcomed me like I wasn't a stranger.
She opened her home, shared her stories and welcomed me with such warmth that I forgot we'd only just met.
It was such a simple act of kindness but it's something I'll never forget.
I still think about that afternoon because someone I'd never met before welcomed me with so much warmth and kindness.
It reminded me that there are still beautiful people in this world. Sometimes, the people we least expect leave the biggest mark on our hearts.
That's the story behind Kalani.
Every time I look at this design, I'm reminded that some of the best moments in life aren't planned.
They begin with a simple act of kindness.
I hope Kalani becomes part of your own beautiful memories.
With love,
Simona ♡
