A story of kindness I'll never forget.
I designed Kalani after one special afternoon in Hawaii.
I had signed up for a weaving workshop and was so excited to learn from a local artisan. But just as I arrived the rain came pouring down. The workshop had to be cancelled and I thought that was the end of it.
Then a woman walked over with the warmest smile.
She introduced herself as Kalani, the teacher I had been hoping to meet.
Instead of saying goodbye she invited me into her home.
We spent the afternoon sitting under a little pagoda, listening to the rain, sharing stories, learning about Hawaiian culture and simply enjoying each other's company. Before long, her son arrived with a freshly baked banana pie and happily shared it with us.
They had only just met me, yet they welcomed me as if we were family.
It was such a simple act of kindness but it's something special I've never forgotten.
That afternoon reminded me that even in a world that can sometimes feel busy and disconnected, there are still people who open their hearts to complete strangers.
Kalani is my way of remembering an afternoon that reminded me how beautiful people can be.
Its deep black base reflects the rainy sky that unexpectedly brought us together, while the butterflies, flowers and warm tropical colours are inspired by the beauty of Hawaii after the rain.
Every time I look at this design, I'm reminded that some of the most meaningful moments in life aren't planned.
They begin with kindness.
